Summer program is winding down, and we are planning for our YOUTH summer reading celebration on Friday, August 21st at 5 PM. Joel will introduce us to some of the local big trees, both through an engaging spoken presentation, followed immediately by an in person field trip to visit two of the biggest trees of their kind in town (biggest apple tree, and biggest silver maple). Participants will travel independently to see these local wonders.

VERNAL POOL PARADE - Hidden Stories with SQUAM LAKE SCIENCE CENTER

Using real photos and videos from trail cameras, a Squam Lakes Natural Science Center Naturalist reveals the hidden lives of local wildlife and the stories unfolding right in our own backyards. Participants discover surprising animal behaviors, explore how animals survive in the places they live, and meet a live animal ambassador connected to the story. Discover the surprising variety of animals, from Black Bears and Owls to smaller forest visitors, that visit a vernal pool as it changes through the seasons.

At first, rock decorating may sound like an activity for young children, but this is both a calming, therapeutic activity, and an opportunity to transform an amazing piece of the earth, which holds its own beauty, into a different type of art. Paint some rocks with acrylic paints, draw with permanent markers, or wrap rocks with string and sticks.
