Being a card-carrying member of Whitefield Public Library gives you access to:

FREE Whitefield Public Library cards are available to:

• Whitefield residents
• Students and staff members in SAU 36
• Employees of businesses located in Whitefield
• Residents of adjacent towns

Your WPL card provides access to:

Please bring a driver's license, tax bill, or household bill as proof of residency. 

Library membership is also available to non-residents for $25. Temporary, long-term residents who are not taxpayers—including extended vacationers and Weathervane residents—may receive a temporary card for a $25 refundable fee. Temporary cards do not include access to Libby.

Ages 6–13: Children are eligible for a Library card with parental permission. They may have their own card or use a family card. Ages 14–18: Parental permission is not required. Teens with their own card may borrow up to two physical items at a time.

The type of card you choose matters. With a family card, members of the family can see materials checked out by other people using that card. With your own individual card, another person must have your permission to pick up your books or view information about your checkouts.

• Local newspapers, including daily delivery of The Caledonian-Record and Wednesday delivery of The Coos County Democrat and The Littleton Courier
• Magazines available to borrow
• Free magazines that have been removed from circulation
• Games for use at the Library, plus a selection available to borrow
• Puzzles to borrow
• Arts and crafts materials for use in the Program Room
• Puppets and toys for children
• LEGOs
• Headphones available for use with Library computers
• Yoto Players and Cards available to borrow
• Library Telescope available to borrow, generously donated through the New Hampshire Astronomical Society's Library Telescope Program
• Developmental, Vision, and Hearing Screenings for children — speak with Lyn for additional information
• Child Development Kits featuring developmental toys and materials for children ages 0–4, available to borrow through the Early Childhood Development Program at Ammonoosuc Community Health Services
• Storytime Kits featuring topic-specific books and related activities, available to borrow through the Early Childhood Development Program at Ammonoosuc Community Health Services

Whitefield Public Library offers equipment and technology that help patrons explore new skills, create projects, and bring their ideas to life.

3D Printer — Prusa MK4S: WPL has a Prusa MK4S 3D printer available for use in the Program Room. Patrons may bring their own filament or use Library-supplied filament for a nominal fee. Prior experience or training is required to operate the 3D printer. Please check the Library calendar for upcoming training opportunities.

Cricut Maker: Explore creative possibilities with WPL's Cricut Maker, a versatile cutting machine used for crafts and other creative projects. Prior experience or training is required to operate the Cricut Maker. Please check the Library calendar for upcoming training opportunities.

Did you know that you can borrow more than books from Whitefield Public Library? Our Library of Things offers a growing variety of useful and interesting items for patrons to borrow, including:

• Birding Backpack — Complete with binoculars and a bird identification guide for exploring and identifying local bird species
• Metal Detector — Discover what might be hiding just beneath the surface
• Tent — Available to borrow for outdoor adventures

Whitefield Public Library is pleased to provide convenient collection locations for eyeglasses and electronic recycling.

Eyeglasses Recycling — Whitefield Lions Club: Have eyeglasses you no longer need? A recycling collection box is available in the Library's Front Reading Room. The collection box is monitored and collected by the Whitefield Lions Club, helping give unwanted eyeglasses an opportunity to be reused.

FREE Electronics Recycling — North Country Recycling: Have old, broken, or unwanted electronics? Instead of throwing them away, bring them to WPL for free recycling! Look for the blue collection bin marked “We Recycle Electronics” near the magazine stand. Accepted items include:

• Laptops and desktop computers
• Cell phones and tablets
• Video game systems
• Cables, chargers, and power cords
• Wi-Fi routers
• Similar electronic devices

As a general guideline, if an item has a battery or plugs into an electrical outlet, it may be eligible for recycling.

Recycling electronics helps divert unwanted materials from landfills and supports a cleaner environment.

Did you know that Whitefield Public Library is a designated Family Place Library — the only one in New Hampshire north of the Notch? As part of the national Family Place Libraries initiative, WPL is committed to supporting early childhood development, early literacy, parent education, and family connections. Family Place Libraries recognize that public libraries are more than places to borrow books. They are welcoming community spaces where young children can learn through play, caregivers can connect with one another, and families can access valuable educational and community resources. Our Family Place programs and services focus on children from birth through age five, with special attention to the earliest years of development.

What Makes WPL a Family Place Library?

Welcoming Spaces for Young Children: Our children's area provides opportunities for interactive, age-appropriate play and exploration through books, toys, puzzles, blocks, creative activities, and other early learning materials.

Parent Child Workshops: WPL offers a free, five-week Parent Child Workshop series twice each year for young children and their caregivers. These informal, play-based sessions provide opportunities for families to spend time together, meet other families, and connect with local professionals specializing in areas such as child development, speech and hearing, nutrition, music, and movement. Each session includes opportunities to ask questions, share experiences, and explore activities that support healthy early childhood development.

Specialized Books, Toys, and Learning Resources: WPL offers collections and materials designed to support babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and their caregivers, including developmental toys, children's books, music, and parenting resources.

Staff Trained in Early Childhood Development: Family Place Library staff participate in specialized interdisciplinary training focused on early literacy, child development, family support, and connecting families with community resources.

Community Partnerships: Through partnerships with local health, educational, and human service organizations, WPL helps connect families with resources that support children's development and family well-being.

Welcoming All Families: Our goal is to create an inclusive, supportive environment where families from throughout the community feel comfortable visiting, exploring, learning, and connecting.

Loan Period: Books, CDs, and DVDs may generally be borrowed for three weeks, unless another patron has placed the item on hold.

How Many Items Can I Borrow? Patrons may borrow up to 10 items at a time. Students ages 14–18 with their own card may borrow up to two items at a time.

No Overdue Fees: Whitefield Public Library does not charge overdue fees on books, DVDs, CDs, or other circulating materials.

Patrons are responsible for the cost of materials that are lost or irreparably damaged.
